Daimler is calling on Tesla to build standardized charging station that can charge all EVs not just Tesla cars. This criticism came after Tesla and German train operator Deutsche Bahn opened four additional supercharger stations between Munich and Cologne. These four chargers are part of Tesla’s 14 supercharger network across Europe.
Thomas Weber, Daimler’s research and chief, told Automobilewoche “The future [of an electric charging infrastructure] lies in standardization. As with gas stations, we need a charging system for all manufacturers, not least because it reduces the cost of the infrastructure, but it is also more convenient for customers,”
Tesla’s Superchargers are available for free for all Tesla owners. In as little as 20 minutes, the Superchargers provide half a charge. They are strategically located near major highways to extend the driving range of Tesla cars. In North America, Tesla has opened 82 charging stations.
