Is Tesla already failing Chinese consumers?
Reports out of China today seem to suggest so, claiming the electric car maker that is hot-to-trot to make a splash in the world’s most populous country is failing to deliver pre-ordered cars to customers outside of Beijing and Shanghai.
About 23 electric car consumers have not received their Teslas, according to reports, which has them contemplating legal action.
The Guangzhou-based 21st Century Business Herald Website reports that Shanghai- and Beijing-based buyers are going to be able to pick up their Teslas as early as April 20, but customers in other cities are being told components for the cars still had to wait, even though they were higher on the queue than those residing in the flagship cities.
The gyped consumers have called Tesla China to make inquiries, but Tesla is telling them they are understaffed and unable to set up shop in places other than Shanghai and Beijing.
A joint complaint was filed by 23 buyers from nine areas and 16 cities, including Ningbo, Hangzhou, Wenzhou, Xiamen, Shenzhen and Guangzhou.
Vice President of Tesla’s China operations Veronica Wu wrote in an April 10 letter that the automaker wants all Tesla owners to have the necessary charging equipment and be able to enjoy prompt services before the deliveries are made.
Tesla is hoping to woo the Chinese market, sending its big gun CEO Elon Musk into the heavily-populated country this week. He was expected to attend the 2014 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition Sunday.
